Hajj Guide
Plan, Prepare, and Perform Your Hajj with Confidence
🕋 What Is Hajj?
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, a sacred pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah that every financially and physically able Muslim must perform at least once in their lifetime. It is a profound spiritual journey that embodies submission, unity, and devotion to Allah ﷻ.
“And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House—for whoever is able to find thereto a way.”
— Surah Aal-Imran (3:97) (excerpt)
📖 The Story of Hajj
The origins of Hajj trace back to Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who, in obedience to Allah’s command, left his wife Hajar and son Isma’il in the barren desert of Makkah. This act of faith laid the foundation for the rituals of Hajj, symbolizing trust and submission to the Divine will.
“And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass.”
— Surah Al-Hajj (22:27)
💧 Hajar, Isma’il (AS), and the Well of Zamzam
In search of water for her infant son, Hajar ran seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. Her unwavering faith was rewarded when the angel Jibril (AS) caused the Zamzam well to spring forth, providing sustenance in the arid land.
“Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.”
— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:158) (excerpt)
🏗️ The Construction of the Ka’ba
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Isma’il (AS) were commanded by Allah to construct the Ka’ba, the sacred House of Allah in Makkah. This structure became the focal point for monotheistic worship and the central site for the Hajj pilgrimage.
“And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], ‘Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.’”
— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:127)
🕰️ The Inception of Hajj (The Sacred Pilgrimage)
The rituals of Hajj were established by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and later revived and perfected by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The pilgrimage serves as a commemoration of the trials and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim’s family and stands as a testament to monotheism.
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], ‘Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.’”
— Surah Al-Hajj (22:26)
🌍 Hajj As We Know It Today
Today, Hajj is a global gathering of Muslims, transcending borders and uniting believers in a shared spiritual experience. Pilgrims perform a series of rituals over several days, reflecting obedience, humility, and the pursuit of spiritual purification.
“That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals.”
— Surah Al-Hajj (22:28) (excerpt)
✅ Who Is Eligible to Perform Hajj?
Hajj is obligatory for every adult Muslim who is physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey and ensuring the well-being of their dependents during their absence. It is a once-in-a-lifetime duty that signifies complete submission to Allah.
“And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House—for whoever is able to find thereto a way.”
— Surah Aal-Imran (3:97) (excerpt)
